Named happenings: battles, treaties, revolutions, discoveries, foundings and collapses, the turning points historians point to when they explain how one era gave way to the next. Grouped by the same period-band scheme eras uses, with the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries split further into Eric Hobsbawm's four-part Age of Revolution through Age of Extremes periodization so no single band concentrates an outsized share of the roster. This band does not carry the states, organizations or figures an event involved, only the event itself; those are separate entities linked to it by relationship.
