1875 to 1914, named directly for Hobsbawm's The Age of Empire: 1875-1914: the high tide of European colonial expansion into Africa and Asia, including the Berlin Conference that formalized the continent's partition, the Anglo-Zulu War, the Battle of Adwa, the Boxer Rebellion, the First Sino-Japanese War, the closing conflicts of the Sioux and Pacific wars, and the revolutions in China and Mexico that opened the century's second decade.
