Serafina Davalos (1883-1957) was a Paraguayan lawyer, educator and feminist who became the first woman to earn a law degree in Paraguay, graduating in 1907. In her graduate thesis she argued for full legal equality between women and men, an unusually radical position in early 20th-century Paraguay, and she went on to found a school for girls that emphasized practical and vocational education alongside academic subjects. Though her feminist ideas met considerable resistance in her own lifetime, she is remembered in Paraguay as a pioneering figure in the country's women's rights movement.
