Naziha al-Dulaimi (1923-2007) was an Iraqi physician and politician who became the first woman to serve as a cabinet minister in Iraq, and one of the first in the Arab world, when she was appointed Minister of Municipalities in 1959 under the government of Abd al-Karim Qasim. A trained physician, she was also a founder and leader of the Iraqi Women's League, through which she campaigned for legal reforms expanding women's rights in marriage, divorce and inheritance, contributions that fed into Iraq's 1959 Personal Status Law. Active in left-wing and Communist-aligned politics, she was later forced into exile following political upheavals in Iraq and continued her activism from abroad.
