The Green Revolution, or Third Agricultural Revolution, was a period during which technology transfer initiatives produced a significant increase in crop yields. The changes first emerged in developed countries in the early 20th century and then spread globally until the late 1980s. From the late 1960s, farmers began adopting new technologies, including high yielding varieties of cereals, particularly dwarf wheat and rice, along with widespread use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and controlled irrigation.
