The successive ruling houses of imperial China, each identified by its dynastic name rather than by the generic title empire, the historiographic convention this atlas follows for China specifically. Belongs here: the Qin, Tang, Song and Qing dynasties and the Zhou dynasty's own recorded interregnum. Does not belong here: a non-Chinese conquest state, however dynastic in structure, filed under Empires and Imperial States, and present-day China, filed under Modern Sovereign Republics.
