The Classical World

The Mediterranean and adjacent world organized under the classical Greek city-states, the Hellenistic kingdoms and the Roman Empire at its height, roughly 800 BCE to 300 CE, alongside the parallel classical-era world of Warring States China before its imperial unification. Belongs here: the Hellenistic period after Alexander, the Pax Romana at Rome's imperial height, and East Asia's own pre-imperial classical period. Does not belong here: the Roman world after its third-century crisis and the rise of Christianity as a state religion, grouped under The Late Antique World, or the deep prehistoric and early Bronze Age world that precedes organized classical states, grouped under Prehistory and the Ancient World.
