The Kingdom of Ndongo and Matamba was the personal union of the Ambundu kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba ruled by Queen Nzinga Mbande, who ruled as queen of Ndongo from 1624 to 1663 and of Matamba from 1631 to 1663; the Portuguese formally recognized her as queen of both kingdoms in 1657.
